Chaplain Corps Academy Graduation PDF Print E-mail

The Chaplain Corps Academy class VII graduation was held Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Multi Purpose Room. There were 19 Chaplain graduates that completed a 50 hour training provided by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. There were 10 graduates for Knox County, 4 for Roane County, 4 for Anderson County and 1 for Union County. In attendance were Chief Deputy Tom Spangler (Knox County), Chief Ron Chamberlain(Knox County), Chief Deputy Mark Lucas( Anderson County), Sheriff Jack Stockton (Roane County), and Sheriff Earl Loy( Union County).
 
The Chaplain Corps consists of Local Ministers from a wide variety of faith denominations who volunteer their time for 24 hour “on-call” shifts at least once monthly in order to serve the spiritual needs of both police officers and the general public. Chaplains’ responsibilities include, for example victim and witness assistance, death notifications, and grief counseling and various public ceremonies.

Bank Robbery at West Knoxville Bank PDF Print E-mail

A man entered the Community South Bank, located at 11543 Kingston Pike, shortly after eleven a.m. this morning, and handed the teller a note demanding money.  The teller complied with the note, but was able to press the alarm button, alerting authorities to the robbery.  The man was described as a white male, 5’11”, husky build, wearing a white dress shirt, black dress pants, red tie, red suspenders and sunglasses.  He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Kidnapping/Carjacking Suspect Attempts to Flee Court Hearing PDF Print E-mail

Thirty year old Billy Spurgeon, Jr., attempted to escape custody Monday just before noon while waiting for a felony court appearance where he faced twenty eight charges. Spurgeon was in General Sessions court this morning when he made a run for it out of the courtroom doors.  He was apprehended by KCSO Officers without further incident on the Main Level walkway, and taken immediately back to the Knox County Jail.
