The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 28
year old suspect who assaulted a KCSO officer and who may have committed a
string of break-ins of businesses in West Knox
County early Tuesday
morning. Officer Mitchell Grimes spotted a car pulling into a motel on
Merchant’s Road shortly before 4:00 a.m. that matched the description of a
vehicle and suspect that had been involved in the break-ins. When the officer
made contact with the suspect, Dennis Lee Logan, Jr., who was driving, he ran on
foot. Officer Grimes fired his Taser and missed, then ran after the suspect.
He caught up with him and Logan fought the officer and punched him in the
face. Both men fell into a creek at which time the suspect tried to hold the
officer’s head under water. Logan broke free and ran on foot. A woman who
was with Logan
was taken into custody.
According to records, the vehicle that Logan was driving, a 1987
Chevy Blazer, was reported stolen through the Knoxville Police Department. KPD
also had three outstanding warrants on Logan for aggravated assault, theft, and
vandalism.
