The Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Team,(SURT),is tasked with the search and recovery of objects from bodies of
water within Knox County and surrounding areas as requested. The team functions as a departmental resource in the
recovery of items such as weapons used in assaults or homicides, stolen property, motor vehicles, other physical evidence and bodies. In addition to the search and recovery objectives of the team, it is also tasked with the responsibility of maintaining water safety and control for special events that occur on or around the Tennessee River or other bodies of water. The SURT team may be seen on the water at events such as Boomsday, University
of Tennessee home football games and other high profile events.
