In order to be an officer for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office you must first be twenty-one (21) years old and be a High School Graduate or have a GED. You cannot take the required Correctional Officer Examination for an officer position until you are twenty-one (21) years of age. Starting pay for a Correctional Officer Position is $27,424.44 annually. If you are eighteen (18) years of age or older and a High School Graduate or have a GED, you may qualify for a position within the Sheriff ’s Office such as:

BENEFITS: Retirement deductions are mandatory; the mandatory amount withheld is 6% of your gross pay.  You may choose to have a higher amount withheld; however, 6% is automatically deducted. Cigna Consumer, Cigna Silver, Cigna Gold, Cigna Choice, Delta Dental, United Health EPO, and Spectera Vision are offered to all new employees.  You may choose family, single, or single plus one coverage. However, it is not required that you take this insurance. Health insurance premiums and Dental insurance premiums are as follows:

You accrue one (1) day sick leave per month, and one (1) day annual leave per month. That gives you twelve (12) sick days leave per year, and twelve (12) annual days leave your first year. (Annual leave is vacation leave.) Questions regarding leave can be answered at your employment interview. Knox County also has an Employees Credit Union, which offers savings accounts, checking accounts, and loan services.
