Monday, 12 May 2008

The heads of all the law enforcement agencies in the Knoxville area gathered Friday, May 2, 2007 outside the Civic Coliseum on the Plaza to kick-off Police Week.  The Mayors of Knoxville and Knox County read proclamations in support of law enforcement and placed ribbons on cars from each agency.

The centerpiece of Police Week, May 11-17, was the Annual Knoxville-Knox County Peace Officers’ Memorial Service.  The men and women who died during the previous year were memorialized in a special ceremony.  The keynote speaker was TBI Director Mark Gwyn.  Participating agencies were the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Knoxville Police Department, the University of Tennessee Police Department, the TVA Police, the FBI and the TBI.    The memorial service was presented through the support of the Fraternal Order of Police Volunteer Lodge No. 2.

Law enforcement agencies from the Knoxville area remembered the service of peace officers who passed away from May 2007 until the present.  Families of the officers were escorted to a memorial wreath where they placed a flower in memory of their loved ones.
