Twenty one year old Ray Edward Loveday has been charged with
a murder dating back to 2006. Loveday is
accused of killing Ricky Tipton Thompson on September 4, 2006 in the Vestal
area of Maple and Eddington Streets.
Loveday was actually trying to shoot another man with whom he had an
on-going dispute. Loveday fired at least
27 rounds of ammunition at Matthew Moore.
Moore
escaped injury, but two others with him were shot and injured along with
Thompson who was killed.
Loveday was already in the Knox County Jail for a violation
of a CAPP (Community Alternative Prison Program) warrant for intent to sell
cocaine. He has a criminal history that
includes drugs, driving without a license, and theft. He is being held on the first degree murder
charge with a $2 million bond. This is
an on-going investigation.
