A Knox County Officer arrested a Knoxville man on I-40 near Papermill on September 11, 2008 on a traffic stop that lead to the recovery of thousands of dollars worth of stolen items including golf clubs and tools.
The officer stopped 23 year old Wesley Cook Jr.’s car for a registration violation and because it matched the description given out by detectives as a vehicle that had been used in burglaries of garages in the Gettysvue and Farragut areas. Golf clubs found in the back of the car turned out to be stolen and lead detectives to a residence where they were given consent to search. Inside they found 31 bags of golf clubs, 8 leaf blowers, 2 lawn mowers, 2 weed eaters, and 1 compressor. The total worth of the items is estimated around $70,000. They were taken from garages where the doors were left open.
Cook has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and driving while privilege suspended. He’s being held in the Knox County Jail on a $35,500 bond. He has a criminal record which includes burglary, driving while privilege suspended, several failures to appear, violation of probation, and simple possession.
Detectives are identifying who the stolen goods belong to. Anyone who wants to reclaim their items may call the Sheriff’s Office at 215-2243 and ask for the Detective Division.
