KCSO Investigates Boy Dragged by School Bus PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 20 February 2009

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving a 9 year old boy who was dragged by a school bus at 7:21 this morning.  The 9 year old, who is not on the bus’s route, ran for the bus when it stopped on Herron Road, just off Campbell Station Road to let a regular female rider on.  The boy's mother had just pulled up behind the bus and let him out.  The door shut as the girl got on the bus, and as the boy attempted to get on the bus his jacket or arm got caught in the bus door and he was dragged around 300 feet before the bus stopped.  The boy is identified as Regan Crone of Gates Mill Drive and is a student at Farragut Intermediate.  He was taken by ambulance to U.T. Hospital.  Officers on the scene said his injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The bus driver is 79 year old Doyle Arwood of Herron Road.  He told officers that he did not see anyone in the door when he closed it.  A witness stated that the bus started pulling away with the boy caught in the door, dragging the boy beside the bus.  The witness then drove around the bus and pulled in front of it to stop it.

The Sheriff’s Office has impounded the bus for inspection.  It is owned by Woods Bus Line out of Maynardville.
