TENNESSEE PUBLIC SAFETY COALITION MEDIA CONFERENCE PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 March 2009
The Tennessee Public Safety Coalition, which is made up of sheriffs, police chiefs, and district attorneys from across the state, is promoting legislation aimed at public safety in Tennessee.  The group is traveling around the state to build up support for a “Street Terrorism” bill that would provide for stiffer penalties for violent crimes committed by groups of three or more.  It is also pushing for a bill that would enhance the penalties for aggravated robbery; a “Crooks with Guns” bill that would add more offenses to the list of dangerous felonies for which there are enhanced sentences for employing or possessing a firearm during the commission of the crime; and a bill that would add more assistant district attorney positions statewide. Members of the group will conduct a media conference, Thursday, March 12th in the Sheriff’s Office Conference Room off the lobby on L-1 of the City County Building at 10:30 a.m.  Among those attending will be District Attorney General Bill Gibbons of Memphis, District Attorney General Randy Nichols, Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones and Police Chief Sterling Owen.
