 Asst. Chief Mike Grissom

A veteran officer with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office died Sunday morning.  Assistant Chief Mike Grissom , who was 50 years old, worked his way up the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office beginning in 1980 in Patrol and then was promoted to Detectives in 1989 where he served the majority of his career.   He was instrumental in solving many high profile cases and was named Officer of the Year in 1992 for his outstanding work in helping solve the Cahaba Lane murders which led to the arrest of Tommy “Zoo Man” Huskey.  His personnel file contains numerous commendations and letters of gratitude from the victims of the crimes he helped solve. He was promoted to Assistant Chief in Detectives last March.

“We’ve lost a very dedicated officer and wonderful friend,” said Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones.  His gentle manner and great sense of humor will be greatly missed.  He was certainly loved and respected by everyone in the Sheriff’s Office.”

He is survived by his wife, Cathy, son Chris, and daughter Sarah.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church on Tuesday with the funeral immediately following.  The procession will gather at Mynatt’s Funeral Home at 10:15 on Wednesday with burial at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
