 Tyler Seth Cate

The Knox County Sheriff's Office has arrested one of two men wanted for breaking into an East Knox County home early Thursday morning and shooting the homeowner and stealing prescription medicine.

Twenty-three year old Tyler Seth Cate of McCarty Road in Knoxville was taken into custody without incident Thursday afternoon before 2 p.m.  Acting on a tip, officers found him at a motel off Strawberry Plains Pike.  He is being held on bonds totaling one milllion dollars and is charged with attempted first degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, and especially aggravated burglary. His criminal history shows convictions on two DUIs and arrests for shoplifting and drug charges.

Cate is one of two masked suspects who smashed a window to break into the house at 312 Corum Road at 3:25 a.m.  According to the warrants, Cate started yelling that he knew the victim had gotten his medication that day and began firing a handgun at him.  Thirty-one year old Michael Pressley was shot in the hand and foot and grazed twice in the head. He was also beaten on the head.   He told detectives that he recognized Cate when the bandana covering his face fell off.   Pressley was treated and released from U.T. Hospital.  His wife and four children were home at the time, but were not injured.

The search continues for the second gunman.  No description is being released yet except that he is a white male.
