Break-Ins at Four Knox Churches This Week
Wednesday, 05 August 2009
A burglar hit four North Knox County churches this week and was caught on surveillance video at one church. The spree started on August 2nd at the New Testament Baptist Church at 9325 Maynardville Highway. A witness said he saw the suspect in the church parking lot and later heard breaking glass and saw the suspect enter the church. He’s described as a white male around 6 feet tall and was seen driving a light blue minivan, possibly a Ford Windstar. Nothing was missing from the church, but the suspect had kicked in a glass door and damaged two benches.
Salem Baptist Curch Video
On August 3, it’s believed the same suspect broke into Salem Baptist Church at 8201 Hill Road. Nothing was taken, but a door was damaged as the suspect forced his way in. On August 4, two churches were burglarized within hours of each other. The same suspect forced his way into a basement door at the Unity Missionary Baptist Church at 10020 Sugar Pine Court and stole a $200 guitar. Then a few hours later, a burglar pried the doors of the out building at Emory Road Baptist Church at 8645 Emory Road and took bags of concrete, a snow shovel and bags of costumes used for church pageants.
Detectives don’t know if this is the same suspect who broke into three West Knox County churches on July 21st. Solway Baptist Church and the House of Worship on Hardin Valley Road reported break-ins, but nothing missing. The Westown Christian Church said someone forced their way into the church through a window and stole $20 in petty cash.
