A 74 year old woman was charged with aggravated assault on a Knox County Deputy who was directing traffic Tuesday at the Hardin Valley Academy.  Opal Bundren was taken into custody shortly after the 3:34 incident. 

According to the report, Officer Amy Siples told Bundren that she would have to turn her vehicle around in order to avoid oncoming traffic in the parking lot of the school. According to the report, Bundren stated that she would do whatever she wanted and she would go in the “no entrance” area against traffic.  The officer’s car and three yellow saw horses strung together with yellow tape with “Do Not Enter” were blocking the area that Bundren wanted to enter.  As the officer turned around to find a place for Bundren to turn her Ford F150 truck around, Bundren bumped her with her truck and continued to do so for about 4-5 more feet until Siples was able to get out of the way.

Bundren then drove around the officer and continued toward the school but was blocked by traffic.  She turned around again and attempted to go in another direction where hundreds of students had just left the building.  Fearing for the safety of the students, Officer Siples ran to her car and pulled in front of Bundren and blocked her from moving.

Bundren was taken into custody without incident and later released on her own recognizance.
