Thirty year old Billy Spurgeon, Jr., attempted to escape custody Monday just before noon while waiting for a felony court appearance where he faced twenty eight charges. Spurgeon was in General Sessions court this morning when he made a run for it out of the courtroom doors.  He was apprehended by KCSO Officers without further incident on the Main Level walkway, and taken immediately back to the Knox County Jail.

Spurgeon has been charged with assault and escape, which can add up to one year on to his sentence.  No one was injured during the escape attempt.
