Please note: The website www.jailatm.com is available to deposit money into Inmate accounts using a credit or debit card. 

An inmate cannot have over $250 in an account

Visitation will be conducted at 30 minute intervals. When you sign in, you will be assigned a visitation time. Visitation will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis. If you leave, you must be back 10 minutes before your scheduled time. When visitation schedules are full, visits will be denied until the next visit time.

Your family member will receive a maximum of 1 hour of visitation each week. This will be broken down into two thirty minute visits. While visiting in the facility, you will be issued a facility visitation badge. This badge is to be worn at all times. When the visit is over, the badge will be returned to the Lobby Officer.

Certain activities and/or emergencies may result in visitation hours being changed or cancelled without prior notice.

  • There is no Thursday Evening Visitation.
  • There is no Sunday Morning Visitation.
  • All visitors are required to register at least 10 minutes prior to visit.

Visitor's Dress Code:

Visitors are to adhere to the following dress code :
All visitors (including children) must wear a shirt with sleeves. Sleeves must extend at least 2 inches past the shoulder. Shoes must be worn. (no slippers/house shoes)

Visitors WILL NOT :

  • Wear low-cut blouses or dresses
  • Wear off the shoulder blouses or dresses.
  • Wear cut-off shorts or shirts/blouses. Shirts/Blouses must extend at least to the waistband of pants/skirt.
  • Wear garments that are ripped excessively tight or obscene.
  • Wear dresses, skirts, or shorts that are mid-thigh or above.
  • Wear visibly, any item designed to be worn as an undergarment.
  • Wear any article of clothing expressing profanity and/or a gang related logo.
  • Wear outer garments such as hats, caps, coats, jackets, or hooded sweatshirts to the visitation area.
  • Wear hats, picks, and or combs in the hair.
  • Wear Pajamas.

Visitation Rules and Regulations

Upon Admission to the facility, your family member will be given the chance to submit a visitation form listing the person(s) that they wish to visit. You must be on your family member's Visitation List to visit. If problem should occur with the Visitation Form, the only one who may correct it is your family member.

All visitors coming to the facility must have proper identification when visiting an inmate. Proper identification accepted by the facility includes a driver's license, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, or other form of picture identification.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

If two visitors come to visit, the visit must be divided between them in 15 minute intervals.
Children must be supervised at all times.

Visitors must leave all personal items in the lockers provided or in their vehicles.
No food or drinks are allowed inside the facility.

There will be no smoking or tobacco products in the facility, at the front entrance, or on the steps. Cigarettes are to be placed in the containers provided and not throw in the sidewalks and grassy areas.

Anyone found defacing county property will be charged with destruction of county property.

Any visitor needing a special visit and / or extended visit must have it approved by the Facility Commander or his/her designee.

All visitors coming to the facility are subject to search.

Failure to comply with the above rules may result in your visit being suspended and you being asked to leave the facility.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

Miscellaneous Information

Jail ATMs are located in the lobby of the Knox County Sheriff’s Detention Facility and the Knox County Jail.  You may place cash into the ATM for the inmate for a $2.50 surcharge.  ATMs will also accept credit cards for a 10% surcharge.

Money Orders and Cashier’s Checks will be accepted by MAIL ONLY. A $2.50 surcharge will automatically be placed on all Money Order and Cashier’s Check received.

Personal Property

Personal property will not be accepted unless prior approval has been obtained from the Facility Commander or his/her designee.

Inmates may release personal property 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Money will only be released Monday through Friday during normal business hours.  A “Property Transfer Receipt” must be completed prior to the money or property being issued.

Release of Funds to Inmates

All inmates being released from a Knox County Correctional Facility will be issued a check for the balance of their “Inmate Money Account.”  Inmates may pick up their checks at the Knox County Detention Facility between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday only, excluding holidays.  A receipt and a valid form of identification are required.

Note:  All monies not claimed within one year will be cancelled and the funds transferred to the State of Tennessee as unclaimed funds.

Telephones

An inmate may not receive incoming telephone calls.  Upon being processed in the facility, he or she will be permitted to submit a request for a “Pin Number.”  Once the “Pin Number” has been assigned, the inmate may be allowed to call at specified times during the day.

If there is an emergency, call (865) 281-6700 (Detention Facility) or (865) 215-2484 and advise the operator of the situation.  When the emergency is verified, then the call can go through.
