Knox County Sheriff News

August 2011 Detective of the Month

Friday, 16 September 2011

Over the course of several days in early August, several local law enforcement agencies responded to numerous Armed Robbery calls involving what was believed to be the same suspect.  On August 10th, a surveillance video was captured during a robbery at a BP station in Clinton.  It produced the first clear image of the suspect.  The photograph was released to a mass sharing email account created specifically to increase information sharing between multiple jurisdictions and agencies.

The initiative was started by Detective Aaron Yarnell, and allowed hundreds of officers and parole/probation officers to view this photograph.  A parole officer was able to identify the suspect as Benjamin Joseph Lowe of Knoxville, who was shortly afterwards taken into custody without incident and charged with several Armed Robberies.  This tool has proven invaluable not only on active cases, but has also assisted agencies in all branches of law enforcement on investigations.
