Officer Shoots Charging Pit Bull

Tuesday, 20 September 2011

A Civil Warrants Officer fired two rounds at a charging pit bull Tuesday morning at 2137 Ellistown Road.  Officer Gordon Browning, who is a 16 year veteran of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, was posting a detainer warrant on the front door when he noticed the dog under some blankets and saw some movement.  He then went to a side door to post the document and the dog charged him.  The officer was about three feet from the dog when he fired two rounds with one hitting the muzzle and the other a paw.  The dog was taken to Young Williams Animal Center for treatment where he is expected to recover.  The property owner who is identified as Charles Norton was not home at the time.  No charges will be filed.
