On September 27 at approximately 1:35 p.m., the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wreck on Middlebrook Pike at Frederick Road. According to the preliminary investigation, 34 year old Jeffery Held was travelling westbound and in the process of turning into the parking lot of a private business when he struck a Volkswagen Jetta travelling eastbound. The Jetta rolled down an embankment and came to rest upside down in a drainage pond. According to a witness, Held did not attempt to check on the injured Jetta driver, and he fled the scene. A K9 officer tracked Held in a nearby brush pile. Held resisted arrest, but was taken into custody and charged with driving on a revoked license, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid, resisting arrest, and open container law. Held has a criminal history in Knox County of public intoxication and driving under the influence. He also has a history of a 2011 DUI in Union County.
