Indictments Issued for Mother of Amber Alert Teen

Monday, 29 November 2010

A Knox County Grand Jury issued indictments that stemmed from an Amber Alert on a missing Knox County teenage girl in September.  The girl’s mother, 38 year old Sandal Shannon was taken into custody Monday morning by Knox County Sheriff’s Officers at her house on Harris Road and charged with Aggravated Child Neglect and Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure.  She is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The man accused of taking the 13 year old girl from a Knox County School on September 20th was also indicted on Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure.  Michael Crockett, 47, is being held in a Michigan jail on a parole violation from there and will be extradited to Knox County on the Statutory Rape charge.

The Amber Alert was canceled when the 13 year girl was found safe with Crockett in a motel room in McComb, Mississippi on September 25th.  Crockett told school officials that he was the girl’s stepfather and that they were moving to Florida.
