Shooting Victim Dies, Suspect Charged with Murder
Detectives with the Knox County Sheriff's Office arrested a man wanted for the death of an East Knox County man. Fifty-seven year old Glen Morton was taken into custody Wednesday night and charged with first degree murder and kidnapping of 53 year old Max Thompson. Thompson called 911 last Thursday and said he had been shot. Officers found him at 9111 Brownlow Newman Road with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to U.T. Hospital where he died Monday night.
Detectives say that the two men knew each other and the shooting was the result of a recent dispute. The gun used in the homicide was an M-1 rifle and was recovered. Morton was taken into custody without incident at his girlfriend's residence in Loudon County. His residence is listed as Bales Road, Knoxville. He does not have a criminal history in Knox County. He is being held on a million dollar bond--$800,000 for first degree murder and $200,000 for especially aggravated kidnapping.
Loudon County Sheriff's Office assisted in the apprehension.
His mug shot will be posted as soon as it is available.
