Man Charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals

Friday, 02 December 2011

Twenty-five year-old Matthew Weaver of Knoxville was arrested today and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. His wife, Ashley, filed a report this morning with the Family Crisis Unit, stating that she and her husband had an argument on Tuesday night in their residence at Woodlands West Apartments. She left and went to her father's house, where she stayed until Thursday. She returned to her apartment at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday night. She noticed holes in a bedroom door, and began looking for her cats. She found one in the litter box, unconscious and with blood all over it, and immediately took it to a vet for treatment. The vet determined that the extent of its injuries would necessitate euthanasia. Friday morning, after filing the report with the KCSO, the other two animals in the house were removed by Knox County Sheriff's Animal Control and taken to Young-Williams Animal Shelter. The other cat is receiving treatment for its injuries, and the dog was not injured. They will remain at the shelter until the investigation is complete. According to the report, Weaver did not physically abuse his wife, who is pregnant. A warrant was issued today for his arrest, and he was taken into custody without incident at his residence. He is being held on a $7,500 bond.
