Car Theft Suspect Caught in the Act

Monday, 05 December 2011
Kevin Maples Henry Burleigh, Jr.

Detectives with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect who had been stealing cars from West Knox County subdivisions since July and then selling them to scrap yards.  The caper came to an end when detectives caught 29 year old Kevin Maples in the Stonebrook subdivision Monday morning with a car loaded on a wrecker.  Maples is being questioned by detectives Monday afternoon and will be charged with at least 22 counts of motor vehicle theft.

The investigation led to Maples after an arrest on November 18th of 58 year old Henry Burleigh, Jr. who was charged with theft.  He is accused of taking a 1992 Chevrolet Corsica and loading it on the back of a rollback wrecker.  He was followed to an auto parts place where detectives arrested him.

Maples is suspected of scouting out neighborhoods where no one was at home during the day and having older model cars towed to scrap yards.  He has a previous criminal history of theft, a DUI, and a traffic offense.
