Name of Officer Involved in Crash Released

Tuesday, 20 March 2012

The name of the officer involved in a crash on Monday in West Knoxville has been released. Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Monday night, Officer Kevin West with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a call in West Knox County. Officer West was traveling westbound with his K-9 at the intersection of West Town Way and the I-40 off-ramp. He slowed down to clear the intersection and his vehicle was T-boned on the passenger's side by a 2001 gray Buick LeSabre traveling eastbound on West Town Way. Two witnesses stated that they saw and heard Officer West’s emergency equipment, so they stopped at the signal to allow him to pass. The driver of the Buick stated that he was looking at the witnesses’ vehicles stopped and did not see West’s vehicle until he collided with it.

Officer West was transported by Rural Metro to UT Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Neither the driver of the Buick nor the K-9 was injured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol was not a factor. The driver of the Buick was cited for failure to yield.
