Knox County Participates in National Night Out

Monday, 06 August 2012

Fourteen Knox County neighborhoods are celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7, 2012.    This is the 29th Annual National Night Out, which is a crime and drug prevention event for neighborhoods.  “This is an excellent time for the Sheriff’s Office to strengthen our community partnerships by showing support to our active neighborhood watch groups,” said Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones. “We’ll be out meeting and socializing with residents and letting them know that we encourage their efforts to make their neighborhoods safer.”

Residents will be locking their doors, turning on outside lights and spending the evening with their neighbors in a variety of activities.  In Knox County, many of the neighborhoods are having cookouts, pool parties, and ice cream socials.  The Sheriff’s Office will have officers, K-9s, motorcycles, and even the helicopter at some of the events to demonstrate how KCSO is helping keep neighborhoods safe.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen community and police partnerships, and let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized against crime.
