Man Hit by Train in Anchor Park Identified

Wednesday, 15 August 2012

The name of the man struck and killed by a train on Sunday night has been released. He is identified as 44-year-old David Paul Yarbrough of Knoxville. Shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Sunday night, the Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to Anchor Park off Turkey Creek Road in West Knox County after a passerby notified E911 that someone had been struck by a train. Rural Metro also responded and pronounced Yarbrough dead on the scene. According to the initial investigation, Yarbrough appeared to have been crossing the tracks on foot when the engine of a Norfolk Southern train traveling eastbound, carrying 105 empty coal cars and three locomotives, struck him. It appears as though alcohol was involved on part of Yarbrough.
