Truck Struck by Train in West Knox County

Saturday, 01 September 2012
At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to 12443 Boyd Station Road in West Knox County after a Ryder box truck was struck by a Norfolk Southern train. According to the initial investigation, 22-year-old Tony Ogle, Jr. of Rockwood, Tennessee was traveling northbound on Willow Creek Drive in a Ryder box truck and was attempting to turn onto Boyd's Bridge. Ogle crossed the train tracks and stopped, leaving the rear of his vehicle on the tracks. A Norfolk Southern train approached the box truck and its driver made an effort to stop the train, but the lead of the locomotive struck the rear of the truck. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and it appears as though Ogle was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Both Ogle and his passenger, 25-year-old Thomas Fleeman of Knoxville, were transported by personal vehicle to Parkwest Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Ogle was cited for failure to obey signal of train approach.
