Corryton Bus Wreck

Shortly after 7:09 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to 8803 Sunrise Road in Corryton after a school bus ran off the road and into an embankment. According to the preliminary investigation, bus number 77, carrying 32 East Knox Elementary School students, was traveling northbound on Sunrise Road when the driver ran off the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the roadway, and crashed into an embankment. Most of the children on the bus complained of minor injuries and were checked out on location by EMS. Two students were transported by Rural Metro to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital for minor injuries. The students not transported to ETCH were either transported to school by another bus or released to their parents. The driver was transported to UT Hospital by Rural Metro for minor injuries.
