Shooting Suspect Charged with Attempted First Degree Murder

 Late Wednesday afternoon, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man wanted in a shooting in North Knox County from December 28, 2010.  Twenty three year old Steven Thodos is in the Knox County Detention Facility on a $1,600,000 bond charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder.   He is accused of shooting into a vehicle with two people with one round hitting one man in the arm while stopped at a traffic light at Cunningham Road and Dry Gap Pike.  The victim, James Rankin, drove away from the scene with his passenger, who was unhurt, and went to a friend’s house in West Knox County to report the incident.  Two other people were riding with Thodos during the incident, but were not charged.

Thodos, who is homeless, has a long criminal history in Knox County which includes possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, assault, theft, criminal trespass, and unlawful possession of carrying a weapon.
