Man Charged with Severely Beating Girlfriend

Tuesday, 01 February 2011

A 37 year old Knoxville man is in the Knox County Detention Facility charged with aggravated assault and aggravated rape of his 34 year old girlfriend.  Anthony Lamonte Hunter is being held on a $225,000 bond for the early Saturday morning incident.  The victim told detectives that she and Hunter got into an argument and that she fled his house at 1140 Albany Road twice on foot, but he forced to her back to the residence.  She said he beat her repeatedly with his hands and boots, struck her multiple times with a wooden table leg, threatened her with a hammer, cut her with a knife, and struck her with a shovel.  He also wrapped duct tape around her head, ankles, and wrists and sexually assaulted her.  The abuse lasted from around midnight until she was able to escape in her car around 7:00 o’clock that morning and drove to a nearby convenience store for help.  She was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment.

Hunter has a criminal history in Knox County and has been convicted of DUI, driving without a license, failure to appear, and unlawful weapons possession.
