South Knox County Car Crash Leaves One Dead
One male is dead and two are injured following a Wednesday afternoon car crash in South Knox County. The crash occurred around 4:13 p.m. on Kimberlin Heights at Sam Cruze Road. 30-year-old Gabriel M. Dalton of Seymour, driving a white 2005 GMC Yukon, was transported by Lifestar to UT Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the lead investigator, Crash Reconstructionist Officer Scott DeArmond, Dalton had been speeding and was traveling on the wrong side of the road when his Yukon struck a maroon 2002 Ford F-150 head-on.
Dalton’s passenger, 28-year-old Corey A. Tarwater of Seymour, was transported to UT Hospital by Rural Metro for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford F-150, 77-year-old Franklin Dupes of Sevierville, was also transported by Rural Metro to UT Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Neither Dalton nor Tarwater was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Dupes was wearing a seat belt. Investigators believe Dalton had been under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
