The Knox County Sheriff's Office responded to a plane crash early Thursday evening in South Knoxville.  The pilot of the single engine Beechcraft told officers that had taken off from Island Home Airport, lost power and landed the plane in a field next to the road at 5840 West Martin Mill. The pilot is identified as Quentin Elkins of Andersonville.  He suffered various injuries, the most serious a leg wound.  He was transported by Rural Metro to U.T. Medical Center shortly after the 6 p.m. crash.  His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.  He was the only one aboard the plane.  No one was injured on the ground.

There was some property damage as power lines were downed and lines ripped from one house.  The KCSO has secured the scene and is waiting for officials with the National Transportation Safety Board to arrive.
