Man Shot in West Knox County
One man is being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg following an incident that occurred in West Knox County this afternoon. Around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, the KCSO responded to 920 Ashbrooke Way after neighbors called 911 to report hearing the sound of gunfire.
According to the initial investigation, the incident occurred in the living room of an apartment at the Reserve at Westland. 19-year-old Robert H. Gibson was sitting on the couch, handling a gun, when it discharged, striking 18-year-old Thomas Peyton Montgomery in the lower left leg. Montgomery went next door to a condominium complex and borrowed the phone of a resident to call his parents. His parents responded and transported him to Parkwest Medical Center. Gibson and the witness, 18-year-old Justin Randles Gore, who had been inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, fled after the gun discharged and later returned to the scene.
Montgomery’s injuries are expected to be non-life-threatening. Gibson, Montgomery, and Gore were visitors of two women living in the apartment, and the women were not home during the incident. None of the men involved in the incident have permanent addresses. No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing. More details will be released as they develop.
