A deputy with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was arrested late Friday night and charged with DUI and three counts of theft. Forty year old Jason Williams is being held in the Knox County Detention Facility on a $17,000 bond.
Officers with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Cotton Eyed Joe’s in West Knox County Friday at 10:30 on a disturbance call. According to witnesses, Williams took a bag off a table containing two cell phones and car keys. The owners of the articles found Williams in the parking lot with the bag and cell phones. They found the car had been moved to the other side of the parking lot from where they had left it. According to the incident report, Williams said that he got into the victim’s car and drove it, but decided not to take it and left it at the end of the parking lot. He and the witnesses got into a physical fight in the parking lot. The report said that officers found Williams unsteady on his feet, had watery, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He was unable to perform a field sobriety test due to his aggressive behavior.
Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones said per the Knox County Merit System policy and procedures, official administrative action will happen at 9:00 Monday morning.
Williams was assigned to the Radio Unit of the KCSO where he worked on two-way radios.
