Husband Assaults Wife and Burns Down House

Tuesday, 10 September 2013

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for assaulting his wife and setting their home on fire this morning.

According to the initial investigation, 49-year-old Archie Edward Welch and his wife were involved in an altercation at their home located at 6621 Kimaron Lane early Tuesday morning. Welch’s wife fled the home and met a KCSO officer at Weigel’s located at 1506 East Emory Road and told him that Welch had physically assaulted her and threatened to set their house on fire. While at Weigel’s, the victim received a call from her son, who had also been in the house, and he told her that his father had set the house on fire. The son fled the house and went to Weigel’s.

KCSO officers responded to the residence just after 1:30 a.m. to find the home on fire and Welch walking out of the garage. Welch resisted arrest, but was taken into custody and charged with aggravated arson, resisting arrest, and domestic assault. He is being held in the Knox County Detention Facility on a combined bond amount of $54,000.
