KCSO Reserve Officer Struck by Vehicle During Parade

Saturday, 07 December 2013

A reserve officer with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic for the Halls Parade on Saturday night.

According to the initial investigation, two reserve officers were directing traffic for the parade on the south side of Beaver Dam Baptist Church on Emory Road around 6:20 p.m. when a black 2012 Kia Sorento pulled in. The 38-year-old woman driving the Kia was being redirected by one of the officers back toward Norris Freeway (on her left) to avoid parade traffic. She said she was focused on that officer as she made the turn onto Emory Road, did not see the other officer directing traffic, and struck him with her left front fender. The officer fell to the ground and struck his head on the pavement.

He was transported by Rural Metro to UT Medical Center with a serious head injury. No citations or charges will be issued. The name of the officer will be released after his wife arrives at the hospital. He was last reported to be in stable condition in the emergency room.
