KCSO Reserve Officer Struck During Parade Released from Hospital

Monday, 09 December 2013

Knox County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Officer James “Jim” Buhl has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. Officer Buhl was struck by a vehicle on Saturday night while directing traffic for a parade in Halls.

According to the initial investigation, two reserve officers were directing traffic for the parade on the south side of Beaver Dam Baptist Church on Emory Road around 6:20 p.m. when a black 2012 Kia Sorento pulled in. The 38-year-old woman driving the Kia was being redirected by one of the officers back toward Norris Freeway (on her left) to avoid parade traffic. She said she was focused on that officer as she made the turn onto Emory Road, did not see Officer Buhl directing traffic, and struck him with her left front fender. Officer Buhl fell to the ground and struck his head on the pavement.

He was transported by Rural Metro to UT Hospital with a serious head injury. No citations or charges will be issued.
