Murder/Suicide Ruled in Death of Couple

Monday, 25 April 2011

The preliminary autopsy results indicate that the couple found dead in their Thorngrove Pike house on April 20th was murder/suicide.  The medical examiner said that it appears that 70 year old William Alvis Smith stabbed his 67 year old wife Lois in the chest one time apparently while she slept.  He then stabbed himself in the chest.  The couple was  found in a bedroom.  The medical examiner said it appears the bodes had been there for about a day.

The Sheriff's Office had responded to the residence at 5833 Thorngrove Pike in the past.  In July, 2006 Lois Smith said she found her husband in the kitchen bleeding from a knife wound to the chest.  The second time in April 2009, Mr. Smith was taken to the hospital with an ice pick in his chest that he reportedly fell on.  There were no charges either time.
