West Knox County Burglar Nabbed

Thursday, 16 January 2014

Detectives with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man linked to at least five home burglaries and possibly five more in West Knox County.  Fifty-nine year old Kevin George Howard of Knoxville was taken into custody on Monday and charged with aggravated burglary and felony theft.  He’s in the Knox County Detention Facility on a $27,500 bond.

Detectives say he kicked in the glass in back doors and took jewelry, which he then sold to gold dealers and pawn shops.  According to records, he pawned 47 items since November 1, 2013 for over $4,000.

Also arrested in the case is 51 year old Debbie Rau of Knoxville.  She is charged with felony theft and is in the Knox County Jail on a $2500 bond.  She is accused of pawning items that Howard stole.  She sold 24 items for $1200.

Most of the jewelry has been identified by the owners except for a jewelry box containing miscellaneous costume jewelry.  Anyone with information is asked to call the KCSO at 215-2243.   The investigation is continuing and more charges are expected.

Update:  Jewelry box was claimed Thursday afternoon.
