Looking for Volunteer Work?

Thursday, 06 February 2014

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is looking for at least 25 community minded people to volunteer in a special program called SCAN.  SCAN stands for Senior Citizen Awareness Network and as the name implies, volunteers check on the safety and security of older citizens who have enrolled in the program.  The volunteers wear uniforms and drive a KCSO car. They evaluate how safe a senior’s home is, give out crime prevention tips, and provide agency referrals.  SCAN also reports any crime or emergency situations to 911.

If you’re interested, you must be 21 years old and fill out an application which includes a background check, a driver history check, and an interview.  There is a two week training class which is tentatively scheduled for April. Once you are accepted into the program you are required to work two days a month.

The application deadline is March 7.  For more information or an application, contact the SCAN Coordinator, Julie Bond, at julie.bond@knoxsheriff.org or (865) 215-5627.
