A man who stabbed a firefighter in the head at 2227 Midway Road Friday afternoon is in custody. Fifty-five year old Gary Doyle was arrested shortly after the 1:00 p.m. call to 911. According to officers on the scene, Rural Metro responded to a shed on fire at the Midway Road address. Doyle was inside the shed where he had a campfire burning and refused to leave. When he did come out, he stabbed a firefighter in the head with a hunting type knife and walked into the woods. Lt. Tim Hancock was transported to Mercy Hospital.
Officer Ken Clabo and his K-9 Ewok tracked Doyle and took him into custody a short time later. The knife was found on Doyle. Charges are pending but he is expected to be charged with resisting arrest and aggravated assault.
Doyle has a previous criminal history with a DUI conviction. Officers said that Doyle was homeless and had been living in the shed.
